Hello Minim Family,
We hope you are well, and thank you for another fantastic week of classes!
Welcome back to our Minim Magic series, where we take a closer look at the heart of Minim. In Part 1, we shared our mission, vision, and the Minim Method. We hope that this resonates with you and we look forward to building the future of the next generation together.
Today, let us dive into the foundation of our approach: Responsive Education.
It has been an absolute pleasure pouring our hearts to create memorable experiences for the community, and we are heartened that the message gets to you! Here are some of the comments we have received.
-
“Thank you for the thoughtful event. I wish I had this experience when I was a child, then I would not be afraid of piano!”
-
“If I were taught this way, I would love playing the instrument too!”
-
“Thank you for organizing Minim. Your passion and dedication have given so much courage and hope to the children in Japan.”
One of the reasons that keeps the Minim team united is a strong understanding of our education approach, and the values that we aim to nurture in the students that come our way.
Responsive education: A learner centric approach
Responsive education is conceptualised from a learner centric approach. It starts with the learner, not the lesson.
Information is no longer scarce, but abundant and easily accessible. The role of the educator has shifted from sharing information to curating information in response to the needs and desires of the learner.
This is especially important for the modern learner, who quickly loses interest when they are presented information that is no longer relevant to their desires.
Minim Magic happens when we start off by listening to the children. We understand their interests in the subject and curate information according to their current learning abilities.
When a child is curious, their learning takes off naturally. We sieve through irrelevant material and directly respond to their questions, passions, and discoveries. When this happens, we see that children are engaged as they develop deep, joyful, and lasting learning.
In some cases, we hear that children are playing the instrument by themselves at home, just because they love it!
Minim's 6 Cs
At Minim, we prepare our children for the unpredictable and rapidly changing future by equipping them with the skills to pick up any skill, and the ability to work with anyone.
We do this through nurturing the 6Cs - what we consider as essential tools that every child needs for the future.
Creativity
The power to imagine and express ideas
Critical Thinking
The ability to question, analyze, and solve
Confidence
The courage to perform, share, and grow
Collaboration
Learning and creating together as a team
Compassion
Empathy and kindness that music naturally inspires
Curiosity
The spark that drives lifelong learning
These are skills that will carry with the children throughout their lives. By combining the subject matter taught with Responsive Education, we are preparing children with tools they will carry into every stage of their lives.
