Minim English Academy provides one-on-one instruction using a blend of storybooks, phonic learning and songs. We focus on sound-to-word decoding built up step by step. Our tutors help children build phonemic awareness, blending and segmenting skills, and reading fluency.

An Lin is part of Minim's Math Academy team and also serves as Minim's Educational Partnerships Coordinator. A former president of Singapore's oldest theatre company, she's passionate about speech, linguistics, and critical thinking, with experience as a debate coach and public speaking workshop host in Singapore.

What age/grade levels do you teach?
Minim English Academy is targeted at children starting from age 4, once a child can focus on a short structured activity, through to early primary school. We adapt the pace to each child rather than their age.
My child already knows some letters. Do they still need to start from the beginning?
No. Our aptitude test identifies exactly which sounds, blending skills and tricky words your child already knows, so we start at the right point rather than the beginning.
Does my child need any prerequisites to join?
Other than being able to participate in a short structured activity, we are more than happy to work with your child, even if they have no background in the English alphabet.
Can you support my child's school curriculum?
Yes. We can reinforce phonics taught at international school, IB, or Japanese school, while also building deeper decoding skills that carry over into any English-medium classroom.
My child struggles with reading and writing. Can you help?
Absolutely. Beyond conversational skills, the Minim English Phonics class is also targeted at developing recognition skills for reading and writing, through sound recognition, blending, letter formation, or spelling targeted at their level.
How long does it take for my child to learn how to read and write?
Every child progresses at their own pace, so there is no single answer. That said, with consistent weekly lessons, many children move from learning their first letter sounds to reading simple words within a few months. Building to confident, independent reading typically takes one to two years of regular practice. Our phonics aptitude assessment at the start ensures your child begins at exactly the right point, which makes every lesson count.
