We are excited to share our newest program: Minim English Academy, focused on the joy of reading and writing.
Language is all around us, and it is a powerful gate to knowledge. When a child can comprehend what is written, whole worlds of information open up to them. Sometimes the barrier is a gap in understanding the language itself. Other times, it is the fear of looking at a chunk of words, deciding it is too complicated, and shutting down before even trying.
It helps enormously to have a specialist sit down with a child and break the process of reading down, step by step. After thorough research, the Minim team is ready to do just that!

Having a strong foundation of reading and writing in English helps children unlock the world around them. We cannot wait to see their faces light up as they realize they can read books, menus, signposts, and even write their own letters and stories in English.
If your child needs an extra hand understanding written word problems, essays or articles, we are ready to help them build confidence and patience in reading comprehension. Our aptitude test helps us see exactly where the gap in knowledge sits, so every lesson counts.
We start with an aptitude test, then design a learning journey
Built on proven phonics methods from international and Singapore based systems, Minim English Academy helps children decode words with confidence and grow a genuine love of reading, one sound at a time. Every child starts with a phonics aptitude assessment, so lessons begin exactly where your child is, whether that is their very first letter sounds or the road to fluent, independent reading.
Here are the topics that the aptitude test looks at:
- Alphabet familiarity, through a simple song and letter tracking
- Sound recognition, hearing and identifying individual letter sounds
- Letter reading and writing, including pencil grip and letter formation
- Blending short words together for reading
- Segmenting spoken words into sounds for spelling
- Digraphs and vowel teams, for children further along, like "ai," "ee" and "oa"
- Tricky words that do not follow standard phonics rules, like "the," "said" and "was"
- Comprehension, making sure a child understands what they read, not just decodes it
From here, we design a learning journey that begins exactly where your child is, whether that is their very first letter sounds or the road to fluent, independent reading.

Teaching team
Leading the program is An Lin, also part of our Math Academy team and Minim's Educational Partnerships Coordinator. A former president of one of Singapore's oldest theatre companies, she brings a lifelong passion for speech, linguistics and critical thinking, alongside experience as a debate coach and public speaking workshop host.
